מזעור באחסון
פרופסור ברטרם זכה השנה בפרס ה- IEEE Reynold B. Johnson Information Storage Award, אשר מוענק על ידי IBM מדי שנה (ומאז 1991) על הישגים מצטיינים בשטח של אחסון מידע, בעיקר ממוחשב.
כבר בשנת 2000 צוינו מחקריו של פרופ. ברטרם, אשר תרמו למסקנות הדרושות לפיתוח מפרט לייצור מערכת דיסק קשיח עם קיבולת של 100 GBלאינצ' מרובע.

לפני כשנה המלצנו על האתר http://www.archive.org/ המאפשר צפייה באתרים כפי שהם היו בעבר, על גרסאותיהם, למשך ההיסטוריה. הסתבר שהעניין לא נראה סימפאטי במיוחד למי שנמצא היום בפוזה של "נולדתי ותמיד הייתי חכם, יפה ומודרני". רעיון עם Brewster Kahle , הממציא של "מכונת הזמן ", חושף פילוסופיה המהווה אולי אחת ממניעי התשוקה לאחסון.

"Nearly every day there are reports about new
computer viruses in the Internet. But in many cases the virus warnings
arrive much too late. As e. g. the virus "Melissa", that in no time
attacked several million computers and caused economic damage of more than
2,6 billion dollars. Even the well-known virus "I love you" gained
doubtful popularity in knocking out several networks within a few hours.
Thereby everybody may ask himself, what a virus actually is and if the
products of Tobit Software are protected against such kind of attacks.
In contrast to general opinions, a computer virus does not arise accidentally. It is a programme, following a defined purpose, as for example data spying. The first component, the so-called spreading mechanism, realizes virus spreading from one to the other data file or from one computer to the other. The second component, the so-called payload or damage routine, causes damage to the infected files or systems.
The various kinds of viruses are called data file-, boot sector- or macro viruses. File viruses damage specific programme files or games. Boot sector viruses settle in the surroundings of the hard disk, that is required for starting the computer, and are thus having an extremely destructive effect. The macro viruses are hidden in small command series. They arise the most frequently since they are easily programmed.
