לא מאמי, זה-Distributed File System, יישום מבוסס client/server שמאפשר למשתמשים מתחנות הקצה לגשת למידע שנמצא על השרת ולעשות בו כרצונם, כאילו היה זה מידע שנמצא על התחנה שלהם ממש. נניח שהמשתמש מעלה קובץ שנמצא בשרת : הוא יקבל רק עותק של הקובץ, אותו יערוך במחשבו, ויוחזר לאחר מכן לשרת.
מערכת מסוג זה מסדרת את הקבצים והספריות של השרתים בתוך ספרייה גלובאלית. כך, גישה מרחוק למידע לא תהיה תלויה במיקום, אלא שווה לכל client. כל הקבצים יהיו נגישים לכל המשתמשים במערכת הקבצים הגלובאלית, והארגון יהיה הירארכי ומבוסס ספריה.
