4240 Engine
McAfee has now released the 4240 AV scanning engine for Windows.
This engine contains many improvements in detection and repair
capabilities over the previous 4160 version, and has been made
available as an engine-only SuperDAT.
Please note that if you have previously installed the 4240
release candidate engine into your McAfee AV product, it will be
necessary to run the SuperDAT in "force upgrade" mode
(i.e. with the /f switch). More details about running SuperDATs
with the /f switch can be found in any
SuperDAT README.

מאחורי מדיניות אבטחה
קיימות שתי פילוסופיות בסיסיות:

פילוסופיה אוסרת
כאשר כל מה שלא במפורש מוגדר כמותר במערכת, אסור.

פילוסופיה מותירה
כאשר כל
מה שלא במפורש מוגדר כאסור במערכת, מותר.
בדרך כלל, ארגון המודאג
יותר מנושא האבטחה יבחר באפשרות הראשונה . מדיניות מגדירה באופן
מדויק אילו פעולות מותרות לביצוע במערכת. כל פעולה אשר לא מפורטת
במדיניות זו תחשב כבלתי חוקית במערכת. תפיסה זו שאולה מההשקפה
הצבאית, והיא נדירה במגזר האזרחי.

Point - in - Time
הוא סוג של פתרונות העתקה לצורך גיבוי המאפשרים להעתיק קבצים או
ספריות בצורה מהירה, בתוך תת-מערכת דיסקים אחת ספציפית. באופן כללי
קיימים שני סוגים של העתקים תחת קטגוריה הזו: "snapshot" ו-
"clone", עם מספר גיוונים. כל אחת מהן משרתת מטרה מסוימת. בשבוע
שעבר התייחסנו ל- Snapshot copies .
הפעם נדבר על Clone copies
שלא כמו
ה-Snapshot copies, ה-Clone
copies הינן העתקים מלאים של הקובץ או ספריה המתבצע על ידי
תת-מערכת הדיסקים הקשיחים. עת שנדרש עותק של מידע, תת המערכת
מעתיקה באופן פיזי מאזור אחד לשני בתוך אותה תת מערכת דיסקים.
התוצאה הסופית היא שני העתקים נפרדים של המידע
(התופסים מקום כפול על גבי המדיה). הזמן שלוקח לבצע סוג זה של
עותקים קשור באופן ישיר לכמות המידע המועתק ולארכיטקטורה הפנימית
של תת מערכת הדיסקים. משתמשים בסוג עותקים זה בשל הסיבות הנפוצות
של ביצוע עותקי מידע.

Tobit Scale Licenses simplify the system extension
If an enterprise increases, the existing structures have to be
adjusted easily and quickly to the new requirements. This of
course and especially is important for the relevant software
that is installed. It must be possible in no time to add new
users or functions.
Ideally the extension should be
realized via simply entering an additional license number.
Just like the products of the David family.
 If
a David server is installed on a PC, automatically a complete
installation including all possible users, ports and functions
is done. The aquired license number of the starter pack
defines the performance extent in the enterprise. The license
number includes the information how many users and ports are
released and which functions are available in the actual basic
installation. This means the license automatically defines the
product to be used.
The advantage of this license model
is obvious. Optional extensions can easily be done in no time.
E. g. to extend an existing David installation by five users
you just have to acquire an additional license number and
enter it on the server. Immediately all functions of the
applied version are available for five further users. And this
without the installation of additional software and without
complicated adjustments at the running system.
In this way you can not only enter
up to 5,000 users but you can also add additional ports for a
higher data thruput of faxes and voice messages. This means
optimal performance regarding faxes and the digital answering
machine. It is also possible to realize additional functions
such as message access via Internet or the individual
adjustment of the telephone services very easily via a new
license. According to the principle: Never change a running
system. Just build it up.
